FDLE Agent-Involved Shooting in Miami-Dade County

MIAMI – A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) special agent was involved in a shooting just after 9 a.m. on Sept. 17 in southwest Miami‑Dade County. The Miami‑Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) is investigating the incident.
According to initial information, the agent was inside his vehicle when an individual approached and struck the vehicle’s window. When the agent exited the vehicle, a physical altercation immediately followed. During the altercation, the agent discharged his firearm, striking the individual. The agent sustained minor injuries during the altercation and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The individual involved was pronounced deceased on scene. The agent was on duty at the time of the incident and has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
This is an active investigation by MDSO and FDLE will not be providing additional comment. FDLE takes all use of force matters very seriously and will conduct its own thorough administrative review following the criminal investigation.
